The challenge
Baden Powell & St Peter's is a vibrant Church of England school located in the southern coastal town of Poole and it provides an energetic, inclusive and encouraging learning environment for pupils in years 3 to 6.
The building has been extended several times and in doing so, the roof has often been overlooked and badly designed. At over 2200m2 but with no natural demarked area from this kind of work, several flat roofing consultants had missed key elements in the build up of the roof including mis-identifying fragile roof decking material including Stramit.
Along with these issues there were large areas of saturated insulation due to failed waterproofing, poorly designed drainage and failed GRP roof lights.
MISSION
The solution
Hera Waterproofing spent several days on site conducting extensive core sampling to identify the exact nature of the roof build up as well as using the latest moisture-mapping technology. From this data we designed a system which includes the Hera Waterproofing Soteria 25 System, a cutting-edge flat roofing solution that provides a 25-year single point guarantee, offering peace of mind and long-term protection. The Soteria 25 System is designed to meet and exceed all relevant building standards for flat roofing, ensuring quality and compliance. The Soteria 25 System is fully compliant with key building standards to ensure a reliable, long-lasting roofing solution. BS 6229:2018 sets the code of practice for flat roofs, focusing on drainage, insulation, and durability. BS 8217:2005 outlines best practices for built-up felt roofing, guaranteeing robustness in all weather conditions. Additionally, the system meets Part L of the Building Regulations, ensuring energy efficiency by minimising heat loss and supporting the school's sustainability goals. Backed by a 25-year single point guarantee, the Soteria 25 System covers materials and workmanship, preventing unexpected repair or replacement costs. By ensuring that our systems are only installed by approved contractors that are tried and tested, we can deliver the highest standard of installation which is monitored on a weekly basis by one of our technical managers. This helps to ensure compliance to building standards and best practices including Safe2Torch and keep stakeholders informed of progress throughout the project.
